Show Hierarchies in Your FileMaker Files

Completely unlocked & easy to paste into your file

The hierarchy is extremely easy to add to your own solutions, following our clear, step-by-step instructions. The hierarchy is just another "view" of your data: you likely won’t have to make any changes to your data tables in order to add it to your file. You’ll essentially point the hierarchy at your relationships and it renders your data as a hierarchy, allowing you to drill down and select items. Simply follow the directions which come with the template and you can paste the hierarchy onto one of your layouts, showing your data in the hierarchy. The hierarchy is drawn with straightforward FileMaker techniques and requires no plugins.

The Basics

A Portal. SeedCode Hierarchy lets you show your relational data in hierarchical portal so you can open and close nodes to browse your data. You can follow our easy to read instructions to paste this portal onto any layout in your file.

Formatting. You can choose which fields to display for each level and the hierarchy will respect any styled text in your data. You can also use FileMaker’s text-style functions to change the appearance of different levels or to enforce a consistent appearance if you wish.

The hierarchy can also apply Outline...

Filtering. If you have thousands of top-level records, you can filter the hierarchy to show just the top-level records which match your filter. Our example searches for company names, but you could filter by any field in your top-level table.

Documentation. Illustrated and thorough documentation walks you through adding the hierarchy to your own file.

Creating, Editing, & Deleting Items

Work right from the hierarchy. While the hierarchy lets you jump to a selected item’s record in one of your layouts, you can also browse and edit records right beside the hierarchy. And you can customize the fields shown for each different level as those are each presented on their own (hidden) tabs. The hierarchy can also let you add and delete items from your database.
