GoZync3

Licensing

These are the notes for GoZync 3. Docs for the latest version of GoZync--GoZync 4--can be found here. GoZync 4 is a free upgrade and is highly recommended (hint: it's faster).

How does licensing work?

Devices.

GoZync is licensed per mobile device connected; so if you have 10 iPads collecting data in the field, you'll need 10 licenses of GoZync.
These are total connected devices, not simultaneous connected devices.
Any FileMaker Pro clients you have--such as ones you're using for testing GoZync--also count as devices. Fortunately it is really easy to manage your devices.

Levels: LowZync, MoZync, and ProZync.

There are also different levels of GoZync. These differ in the number of table occurrences you can Zync, and in the features available. Learn more about levels.

Managing Connected Devices

Open GoZyncLicense.fmp12 and click the button on the home screen to log in as an administrator. Once there you'll see a tab named "Devices". From there you can see how many devices you're licensed to connect and the list of devices which have connected. You can delete devices here at any time, so if your testing machine is taking up one of your licenses, just delete it here.

These device records are created each time a new device connects, so your deleted device will be recreated if it connects to GoZync again. In this way you can easily delete an existing device to admit a new one, rather than having to rush out and buy a new license before you can get the data from that new device.

For more details, see Managing Devices.

Purchasing Licenses

You can purchase additional licenses at at seedcode.com.

Each license can be for a number of mobile devices, and your licenses within the same [LevelsOfZync | level]] add up. So if you start with a ProZync license for 3 devices, and then purchase a ProZync license for 2, when you enter those license codes into GoZyncLicense.fp7 you'll be licensed fro 5 mobile devices.

When does GoZync check for licenses?

We don't check for licenses when the mobile device sends its data to the hosted files. We wanted to ensure that such transactions are as fast as possible, so there is no license checking there: if you have a license for 10 devices and an 11th device needs to send its data to the server, that device won't be challenged for a license.

We do check when you need to move that data from GoZyncHosted into your solution, when a mobile file calls for a "round trip", when the mobile file downloads new data from the server, and when the mobile file requests a new version of itself.

Do I need a separate license for developing GoZync?

Maybe. If you're developing for a client and sync with the client's live system (if you ever do) you will need a license to do so. We make it very easy for you to "make room for yourself" by deleting one of their devices.

When you have the client's system offline at your office and you're developing and syncing you can just use their license and don't need one of your own.

But if you're developing and testing for a number of different clients, you may want to get a couple licenses of your own. If you're frequently getting client files in your office (as we are) and need to work on, test, and sync them. The easiest thing to do is purchase a one or two device license for yourself and then swap out YOUR GoZyncLicense file for the clients'.

That's what we do. We get a file in from a client with 16 devices and if we used their GoZyncLicense file we'd need to log in (they probably forgot to give us the password for GoZyncLicense) and delete one of their devices, remembering to delete our own when we're done. Instead we just put their license file aside and use our copy of GoZyncLicense.

Need your LowZync License?

LowZync is the free version of GoZync and a license to Low usually comes with GoZync. But if you've deleted your license you can find a new one here.
