Alerts: MESSAGE vs DISPLAY

I'm currently testing with just iCal 4.0.4 on OS X 10.6.8, FMS12/FMPA12, no Google sync.

According to the documentation, Zulu supports the alert types MESSAGE, AUDIO and EMAIL.

However, if I select the alarm type "Message" for an event inside iCal, the FileMaker record will contain the value DISPLAY, not MESSAGE.

If I add the value MESSAGE inside FileMaker, this also shows as "Message" inside iCal.

If I add the value DISPLAY inside FileMaker, this shows as "Message" inside iCal and also seems to work.

So it would seem safer to always use DISPLAY, rather than MESSAGE.

Is there a know issue with DISPLAY, or some other explanation to why the documentation lists MESSAGE and not DISPLAY?

Hi,

Message and Display are the same thing in iCal. In 10.8 they started using Display (under the hood) as opposed to Message, and Zulu should be handling this accordingly with the latest release.

You should be able to specify either from iCal or FileMaker, and Zulu will convert to Display as needed.

I'll make a note to update those docs.

Thanks and let me know if that makes sense.
