GoZync2

Hosting The Demo

How can I play with the demo on my iPad and Server?

You can work with the demo in FileMaker Pro, by simply opening Mobile.fp7 and clicking "Upload" to send a single invoice to GoZyncConnector.fp7 (in the Hosts folder). Opening GoZyncConnector.fp7 will let you select one or more records in the InBox and process them into Invoices.fpy (also in the Hosts folder).

And while that is GoZync "working", what you really want to do is put it on your iPad and see it "zync" to your FileMaker Server or Host (GoZync does not require FileMaker Server if you can see your FileMaker host from outside your building.)

Here's how...

1. Serving GoZyncConnector.fp7, GoZync.fp7, and Invoices.fp7

Begin by uploading the contents of the Hosts folder (GoZyncConnector.fp7, GoZync.fp7, and Invoices.fp7) to your FileMaker Sever or hosting them so that they can be seen by FileMaker clients (and FileMaker Go clients).
In this demo, GoZyncConnector is your intermediary file or "InBox" and Invoices.fp7 plays the role of your "mothership" solution: the place where your mobile data ends up.

2. Pointing Mobile.fp7 at your Server or Host

Next you need to teach Mobile.fp7 how to find the new served/hosted versions of the files from Host.
From FileMaker's Scripts menu, run the script "Manage External Data Sources"... and you'll see two file references, one for GoZyncConnectpor and one for GoZync. Edit both of these and you'll see each is two lines long: the first line contains a reference to the local version of the GoZync files in your "Host" folder. Edit the second line of each file reference to point to the hosted versions of these files on your server, replacing "yourserver.com" with the name or IP address of your FileMaker Server or host.
Remember to edit both the External Data Sources in Mobile: the ones for Connector and for GoZync.
Now quit FileMaker Pro and change the name of our Hosts folder to "xHosts". This will tell Mobile that it can't find the files in Host and it will talk to the files on your server or host instead.

3. Upload a copy of Mobile

Open Mobile.fp7 in FileMaker Pro and navigate to the layout Under the Hood / Utilities / New File Prep. Click "Prep File and Upload" to send this newly repointed copy of Mobile up to your server or host.
You'll be asked if you want to keep or delete the data in Mobile: I'd keep it for now so you can play around without having to create new invoices. If you get any errors you may have made a mistake with the file references above or GoZync.fp7 isn't open on your server/host. Double check that and then try again.
This "Uploading" is the same thing you'll do in the purchased product when you want to send a new build of the file to your users.

4. Place Mobile.fp7 on your iPad and Start Playing

While GoZync has a great way to update files on the iPad, getting Mobile.fp7 to your iPad the first time is most easily done by email. Quit FileMaker and email yourself a copy of Mobile.fp7 (do not .zip it first).
Now open mail on your iPad and click on the Mobile.fp7 attachment. You'll see an option to open it in FileMaker Go and you're off to the races.
Review our overview video here if you're not sure how to play with GoZync or how to upload new invoices to your server.
Enjoy!
